Galaxy Sfeedback on the edge lighting, I have noticed that it does not work if I set notifications to "silent"; it only works if notifications are set to "alert"; edge lighting in this case is useless, since we can't have silent notifications and still have it light up.
I don't use sound alerts so I always put my messages and general notifications to silent, (phone calls are the only things I allow sound for) so I prefer to have some form of a light up indicator for silent notifications. I'm sure there are many other people on the same boat.
now that the S21 phones don't have a LED indicator I have to rely on edge lighting but it doesn't work with silent notifications. this doesn't make any sense. I hope this feedback is taken seriously as Samsung phones are not cheap, for these prices we should have a much better user experience and ability to customize something as basic as notifications and lighting indicators.

Galaxy Syeah, I also thought about this as well, with so many apps out there, a user would have to do this for every app they want to be set up that way...it's just not user friendly. it's a lot more convenient to set a default tone for all notifications, then silence the ones where wanted, and then if desired, turn on edge lighting for all notifications. that's my train of thought here. I also thought about setting the default tone as silent, but that doesn't work for me as I do also have some apps where I need to hear the alert...my main issue here is that Samsung released this edge lighting thing half-baked and the new galaxy phones no longer have a LED indicator. hence that's why in my eyes, they need to prioritize the fixes for this feature. I realize this may seem rather nitpicky, but it's more of a matter of principle if that makes sense.
[edit] sorry I forgot to mention, that I did do a test run w/ the Samsung Messages app, setting the new messages notification to "alert" but w/ a silent tone, and edge lighting on, but it still doesn't work for me. it lights up my entire lock screen as usual. definitely needs to be fixed.

Galaxy Syeahh I actually thought about that, the problem with selecting silent as the default tone is that, that means any notifications where it's "defaulted" will now become silent...and I do have a few notifications where I'd like to hear it (like tasks/reminders and health related stuff), and then with some other notifications I prefer it to be silent with a light up indication
[edit] I also saw some posts recommending 3rd party apps, while it's certainly a workaround I do still feel that Samsung should refine the edge lighting feature and fix the bugs. it doesn't make sense for users to have to go out of their way to find workarounds or have to resort to 3rd party apps for a feature that's essentially part of the Samsung phone, I'll probably look into 3rd party apps as last resort but I guess my grievance here is that Samsung should not be leaving this feature half-baked, it's a huge rip off for the users/customers

Galaxy SI really like Holey Light for Notifications. It's Ad free & free, from one of the most respected Developers on XDA.
