Sometimes my s21 Ultra's screen is unresponsive and I need to tap twice or even three times before it works. It mostly occurs when going back to the home screen from an app. Once at the home screen, when I swipe up to open app drawer or swipe to either side, nothing happens. I have to wait a second and tap again to get a response.

I have tried everything even down to a factory reset which seemed to fix the issue though only temporarily. It came back after a few hours. I only have a small handful of apps installed (Instagram, BBC, etc) and am using the stock launcher. I've looked though display settings, played with battery settings, refresh rate etc and I can't seem to find a fix.

Does anyone else have this issue or know what to do?

I had something similar on a previous Samsung device (S9+ I think).

Are you using any screen protector, other than the preinstalled Samsung screen protector? Most will interfere with the screen's responsiveness. I use Whitestone Dome tempered glass & there's zero loss of screen sensitivity.

Before you send it back, there's a couple of things you can try.

Open the Samsung Members app & Click on Help > Interactive test & Touch Screen. Test the touch screen to see if you do actually have dead spots.

What solved the problem on my S9+ was a factory reset. You could try that as well.

Thank you for the response -  I tried the Samsung members app and I had issues a couple of times.  It's so annoying because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I also used the touch screen indicator in developer options that shows you the streaks where you have touched and sometimes that wouldn't show up either.  I worked out a deal with AT&T and they are supposed to be sending me a replacement tomorrow. I told the rep it better be a brand new phone!

I'm having a similar issue with my S21 ultra. It started almost as soon as I turned the phone on. Through the initial setup process, there were multiple times that the phone completely stopped responding to touch. Sometimes it lasts a couple seconds, and sometimes 15+ seconds. It is mostly random when it happens. But, it happens the most when I'm playing a game, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. It even happened just now while trying to type this message. I've had this phone for barely 24 hours. If this can't be fixed, I will be returning this phone.

  • I'm having the same issue with my s21 5g non ultra. It's annoying because I don't have a screen protector so I increased sensitivity and that didn't work. All I'm told is I'm going to be given another phone. I just received this CPO like 5 days ago.
