I used to be able to uninstall Google Photos app on my S22 as my preference was gallery app and I did not want two photo apps on my phone.

Now I cannot uninstall it on my S25, so I ask if Google Photos has now become a System App?

If so, then can Samsung explain why this has happened and what other Google apps are now system apps which cannot be Uninstalled?

Thanks

Yes, Google Photos is a System App on the S25 series.

I suspect that Samsung has made the decision to not reinvent the wheel, and is moving towards using Google apps as the preferred option.

Some will I am certain, not be pleased, but Google Messages for example, has always been a more widely compatible app with RCS for example. Google Photos backups to Google Drive or Google One, might be a better choice than Microsoft's One Drive?

I think that you will ultimately be able to uninstall Samsung's Gallery app, but as you can see from the screen shots below, Samsung's Gallery app is using a minimal amount of storage.

Oddly enough, you do have the option to Disable Google Photos, but not Samsung's Gallery app.

Thanks RDR! I've always preferred backing up my photos to Google over One Drive. Truth be told, I wish Samsung had gone this way with Gallery. (Google over Microsoft) Would have been so much easier for I suspect most Samsung users who have a Google account

Hi Tao77,

That’s correct! Google Photos is now a system app on the Galaxy S25 series, reflecting Samsung’s ongoing collaboration with Google. This ensures tighter integration with Google services, making for a more seamless cross-platform experience.

We appreciate your feedback and will pass it along to the relevant teams.

Thank you.
