Recently, I was working abroad in Europe. I have a newer S9+ that I have been very happy with and rely on alot as I travel frequently for work.

Yesterday, I turned off airplane mode abroad and the phone connected to the network, I walked outside to receive a better signal, when I looked down I saw an android logo saying "erasing", phone rebooted, and I had to start a factory reset.

Some of my data was saved in a backup, but I lost months of home videos and pictures. This all happened without my consent or knowledge.

To be expected, I am beyond frustrated and reconsidering my choice with Samsung. If this happened going through an airport, etc. And I lost all my information I would be in a tough spot.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

I JUST ENCOUNTERED IT LITERALLY RIGHT NOW. I HAD MY SAMSUNG S9+ FOR ALMOST 5 YEARS NOW. GOT MY PHONE WHEN WAS S9 RELEASED.

IT HAPPENED WHEN I POWERED ON MY DEVICE FROM CHARGING. ONCE I ACCESSED MY DEVICE USING FINGERPRINT CHECKED FEW SECONDS MY DEVICE POWERED DOWN AND STATES ERASING. immediately TRIED TO POWER OFF MY DEVICE TO CANCEL .BUT ONCE POWERED ON LATER ALL OF MY DATA IS LOST. YEARS OF PICTURES AND VIDEOS. LOST IN AN INSTANT.

IF THERE'S NO WAY RECOVERING OR SOMEONE CONTACTING ME TO HELP ME ON THIS ONE.

I WILL CHANGE MY THOUGHTS ABOUT SAMSUNG. IF THIS ISSUES KEEPS HAPPENING TO OTHER USERS WHAT'S POINT OF EVEN BUYING SAMSUNG A PHONE FROM SAMSUNG.

Bumping an old topic as this happened to me as well - no answers from samsung support so far as to how this could have happened.

Checked everything - google accounts are fine - samsung account is fine.

Didn't have 'try 15 times to reset phone' enabled.

Didn't hold any buttons

Didn't do factory reset

all happened while in pocket.
