Samsung DeX Enhancement Suggestions Linux on DeX
• Its a really great and forgotten features with huge potential but hasn't been touched other than few very minor changes.
• 1ˢᵗ of all I never understood why they removed linux rather than working on a stable version, its nice to see them make big changes to samsung dex on one ui 8 first of all please continue the Linux project and bring back the stable version of linux in one ui 8.5. Feature Requests for Enhanced Functionality
• Features that I would like to see other than the stable linux
• Please add dual monitor support
• Please add 120hz support on 120hz supported display
• Give us the ability to run 4k at 120hz
• Bring quadrant split screen like on windows 11 and triple split screen
• Bring more dex specific apps to galaxy store
• Bring the ability to use mutliple desktop like on windows pc for next level multitasking
• Bring dedicated gaming mode to dex
• Better optimization is needed
• Add better video editing capability to dex UI/UX Improvement Suggestions
• A slight redesign to make it look more like windows such as right click
• Changing system app interface when running dex as it just feels like a larger version of smartphone
• Slight redesign like the top bar when windows opened doesn't look like desktop interface and bring boxy design to dex rather than rounded like the windows in pip are still rounded which doesn't look good

Can you please tell me why they canceled linux to dex and not try to make it stable or release the stable version

Because it was never a solution to anything. The performance was terrible, there are kernel issues, and the user experience of having to bounce between two separate OS is poor.

The goal should be to get native Android applications, not wedge a separate OS alongside.

Regardless, if you want Linux on Android, there are many ways to do it. Go look up X11 Linux on Android, for example.

Dual monitor support is a chipset limitation, not just a software one. That said, Samsung could make it so windows can be dragged from the host device (phone or tablet) to the monitor and vice versa which would essentially ape a dual monitor experience. This is something Apple has already figured out with Stage Manager on iPad.

Quadrant split screen has been in DeX for a long time. You just drag an app window to a given corner and you'll get a quadrant snap.

There aren't really "DeX-specific" apps, nor should there be. Apps should have large screen (read: tablet) interfaces by standard Android guidelines. That's all that's needed. What should be the focus is pursuing and incentivizing desktop application developers to port to Android to increase the amount of desktop-grade apps like Samsung did with LumaFusion.

"Gaming mode" is a bit of a mystery... What does that refer to? Really, all that's needed is a keyboard and mouse mapper for on-screen controls in games that don't otherwise support controllers or keyboard/mouse input.

"Better optimization," meaning what, exactly?

Better video editing? LumaFusion is already fantastic in DeX and is essentially "desktop-grade."

Right click exists in DeX. The issue is that the context of right-click actions in Android is left to the app developer. This is not something Samsung can control.

With all that said, I'll take the opportunity to again plug that the DeX interface should be available on the inner display of the Z Fold: https://r1.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-z/dex-on-fold-s-inner-display/td-p/13827668?src=ShareByUs...

I am experiencing increasing frustration with your responses regarding quadrant split-screen functionality. My request is for a true quadrant split-screen, not a drag-and-drop solution. Windows 11 offers this feature, highlighting a deficiency in Samsung's innovation. Before offering further comments, please familiarize yourself with the definition of native split-screen functionality. Four independent equally sized picture-in-picture windows do not constitute a split-screen. This is my final response; Samsung's failure to implement this feature is not my responsibility.

Regarding Linux on mobile devices, progress requires time. A decade ago, foldable phones were unimaginable. While I understand the desire to install Linux distributions like Winfield, the current performance limitations are significant. However, with sustained development (3-4 years), substantial improvements could be achieved. Mobile hardware possesses untapped potential; its capabilities are underutilized. This underutilization does not reflect the desires of all users. True innovation often involves initial struggles, leading to eventual refinement. Dex, though nascent in its initial release, could have benefited from leveraging the power of advanced processors rather than solely relying on software optimization.
Dual-monitor support is not a processor limitation; a 4.47 GHz processor is more than sufficient, exceeding the capabilities of some entry-level laptops.

Dedicated Dex applications, exclusively available on the Galaxy Store, would enhance the user experience. Samsung's control over this ecosystem would be beneficial.

Finally, don't think of replying to this comment because the discussion has become repetitive. Please refrain from reiterating the intended purpose or comparing it to a laptop replacement, as it is not a direct substitute or even close.

You should be more explicit in what you're asking for. "Quadrant split screen" is literally what DeX does. If you meant for each of those quadrants to be dynamically resizable then say that.

There's nothing about DeX's quadrant split screen that is related to "picture-in-picture." See the attached screenshot.

As for dual monitor support, it's absolutely a chipset limitation. It has nothing to do with the GHz of the processor. You only need to look at a given chipset's spec sheet to see this explicitly stated vs. other chipsets which support multiple display outputs.

Re: "True innovation often involves initial struggles, leading to eventual refinement. Dex, though nascent in its initial release, could have benefited from leveraging the power of advanced processors rather than solely relying on software optimization." - What are you talking about?

Re: Dedicated DeX applications, again, the point is that no such thing exists nor should it exist. DeX is not an operating system. DeX leverages the large-screen UI of a given app. What you're saying here literally doesn't make sense.

"Finally, don't think of replying to this comment because the discussion has become repetitive." - I reply because you clearly misunderstand a great many things about DeX and the given hardware. I will continue to reply so long as you continue to reiterate these points of confusion.

My previous non-response is superseded by this clarifying image. True split-screen functionality requires four windows automatically arranged in predefined positions, unlike simply opening four independent windows. Triple and quadrant split-screen configurations exemplify this; a precise 2x2 grid, not individually repositioned windows. This defines native four-app split-screen capability. Given your prior YouTube interaction and the image now before you, further clarification is unnecessary.tf98NWR04j.jpg

DeX supports "a precise 2x2 grid" that is "automatically arranged in predefined positions." You just need to drag an app window to a given corner and it will snap to a predefined size and position. How about you actually try it? I literally just posted a screenshot illustrating this. I did not resize any of the windows independently, I just dragged each app to a given corner and DeX did the rest.

Windows 11's native four-app split-screen functionality allows for seamless multitasking without dragging, and offers resizable windows. In contrast, DeX requires individual resizing of each application. This concludes my feedback; further illogical counterarguments will end this discussion.
