I was wondering why Samsung trade in value is so low and let's just keep it Samsung related I don't care about other manufacturers or carriers, I mean I don't plan on trading my s8 or anything I really like it, I am probably going to wait for the s10 to be released, but for fun, I check my s8 value on samsung website and they said they would give a whopping $300.00 Canadian dollars lol, don't you think that value should be around $500.00 Canadian dollars? What are people's opinions on this, should Samsung even bother doing trade in value on newer devices if they give so little value for them? I mean no one in there right mind would sell there s8 for $300 would they? It's only a year old. Is Samsung saying that the s8 is old and there is big difference with the s9 that you need to get rid of the s8, and move to the s9 so Samsung say we will buy it back for $300 is this fair market value? and if so, can Samsung sell me one of there buy back s8 so I can give it to my brother, Samsung if you have any used s8 for sell I will buy one for $300.00 Canadian dollars and I will pay the shipping.😊

This is quite common unfortunately...
I do truly believe that Samsung should offer more to encourage people to do a trade up to the latest model after all wouldn't we all like the newest flagship device??

They charge to much for a new phone, and pay to low for a used phone. Nothing new.

They either recycle parts or refurb the device, which is then sold to a third party, which will sell the refurb phones itself.

And you cannot except them to give you 50% back. You're asking them to refund you the profits they make, which well isn't going to happen anytime soon. They run a business, not a charity foundation.

Actually to honest I don't really care about 50% buy back, and of course they are running a business otherwise you wouldnt be able to buy Samsung products that's quite clear, but everything you say about recycling parts or refurbish them is just your guess, that not what Samsung told you right? maybe Samsung can answer that question someone that works for samsung, I will email them I am very interested in this. Thanks for your answer though 😊

playing devil's advocate... could it be possible that samsung realizes its not a worthwhile upgrade from the s8 to the s9 so they're indirectly saying "I wouldn't do it but if you really want to sure we'll give you $300". Just a thought.

I think that is possible alot people world wide are really keeping there phones longer because they realize its just slight differences in specs, people spend $1000 in 2017 on the s8 and then in 2018 spend over another $1000 on the s9 that is just slightly different truly I think manufacturers push out phones to quickly it should be every 2 years, so the customer can see how much change there really is and actually it would work out perfectly for samsung because they have way to many devices out there and can't keep up with updating them.
