I've recently read that Google Messages is planning on rolling out encryption under the RCS updates. Is there anything that Samsung is considering to match the improvement that Googlenis planning for the RCS under Google Messages?
Also, if someone wanted to change from Samsung Messages to Google Messages what would be required to be able to benefit from the RCS? I've considered doing it, but when I set Google Messages as default,  it tells me that my phone (Samsung Galaxy A50, running Android 10) is not compatible with the chat (RCS) functionality.
Thanks, and I hope that everyone is staying safe and enjoyed the past weekend.

Yeah - I wouldn't put too much faith in what Customer Service Reps have to say.. Carriers or Samsung's.. They have a terrible record for not knowing what they are talking about..

Hi  soccerdad ,

The RCS feature is provided by the carrier and Bell supports it. This service can be used with the native Samsung apps. However, Please check with your carrier and Google support for further information

Telus supports Google RCS. Only Bell supports Samsung RCS, and not Google RCS.

No word from Samsung, but my assumption is that they will. Samsung and Google announced that they are working on integrating both of their RCS standards so that they can work cross device. In order to do that, I am assuming they will encrypt end to end as well.

To answer your second question, you can install the google messaging app, but your ability to use the Google RCS chat is limited to your service provider. If you are on bell (or any of their sub brands, like virginmobile), you will not be able to use Google RCS since Bell partnered with Samsung for RCS support. Rogers & Telus and their sub brands all support Google RCs and not Samsung. So if you want to use Google RCS, you will have to switch providers.
