I was getting low battery at 40 days. Today both battery had to be replaced just to do the update. My original smart tag still have original battery and are over a year old. This is aweful.

Hi all, thanks for reaching out about this.

I can understand the frustration with not getting more battery life out of your SmartTag2s.

First thing to make sure of is to monitor your usage of the Tags themselves, as increased usage 1-2 times daily will obviously not make it last its absolute best.

In a similar manner, when attached to pets such as dogs, there is a chance they are pressing the button, which will make the battery drain faster than normal as well, since it is being used.

If you wish to extend the period of use, you can try using the SmartThings app to turn on power-saving mode, which gives the SmartTag2 even longer on-time.

If even this is not helpful, and the battery life is not consistent with the usage, you can try a reset of the SmartTag2.

Step 1. Open the SmartTag’s battery cover.

Insert the tip of your finger into the notch on the bottom of the SmartTag and then pull until the battery cover comes off.

Step 2. Remove the battery, and press the button on the center of the SmartTag.

Step 3. While still holding the button down, reinsert the battery.

Note: If the device makes a sound right after inserting the battery, try these steps again.

Step 4. Hold the button for five seconds, and then release it.

Step 5. Then, snap the battery covering of the tag back together. The device should now be reset.

At least, my smart tag 2 has shown low battery several times since i bought it. The battery level came back after a while. I think it is a bug rather than actually battery low. The other issue is random beeping (same sound as the tag is powered up, which makes me wonder if it is due to its software crashes and restarts). The tag got a firmware update today. I will see if it fixes anything.
