I just bought this tablet model SM-T290.  I like it in many respects; however, it does not work well with stylus.

Before buying it, I thought that it would work well with a stylus because I have a Samsung phone SM-A205W that responds well to stylus.

I like to mark-up documents with a stylus.

But I guess the technology varies among Samsung products, because I can use stylus on my phone but not on my tablet for this purpose. I was hoping to use my tablet for this purpose since the larger screen seems better suited to mark-up documents.

After seeking support for this issue, I now realize that this is simply a limitation of this model of tablet.

It works poorly with a stylus.

Very hard to create even a very short continuous line with a stylus.

I did not expect the tablet to be as sophisticated as the s-pen models, but it is clearly not designed to work with a stylus whatsoever.

I feel like there is very little information available to users or potential purchasers about this issue. So just thought I would share with others.

Do other customers value this functionality?

I wonder whether we might expect future software upgrades that will enable this functionality by introducing touchscreen sensitivity adjustment settings for this model of tablet?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt a stylus not just a capacitive extension of your finger?
Try holding the stylus a different way?
Try a different stylus 🤷♂️
Got a screen protector or case on?
There is a sensitivity adjustment in my settings when using cases etc?

Yes I have screen protector on both phone and tablet.

Stylus works fine on phone. Like pen.

Stylus works poorly on tablet. Works better if I press super hard. But still ineffective.

My finger works fine.

But want finer work than finger.

Tried 2 types of stylus.

I see no sensitivity adjustment that works.

I don't have your device but I search touch sensitivity in settings and i can up it when using screen protectors🤷♂️
Also, for giggles 🤣🙃, try removing the screen protector on tablet to narrow the issue that it is /or/ is not a screen problem 🤷♂️

I should say that removing the screen protector may not allow it to be reapplied properly 🤷♂️ you may need another to replace it 🤦♂️
Id check for the touch sensitivity setting first.

The S Pen is an inductive device and needs special hardware built into the display. That's why the S Pen won't work as a stylus on any other device.

Thank you for your comments, mytech.

Yes perhaps that is my problem.

My phone SM-A205W  has the "screen sensitivity" setting.

My tablet SM-T290 does not.

I wish that there was a software upgrade for SM-T290 that would please provide my tablet with the "screen sensitivity" setting.

Don't know how you protect /take care of your device but if this is important I'd at least remove the screen protector and maybe get a case minus the screen 🤷‍♂️ or take the screen off of a case?

Did you try a normal passive stylus or is it an active stylus (one with a battery)? I think that an active stylus should work. Some have "palm rejection" technology (you can rest your palm on the screen), but that's very hard to find... If you buy an active pen (starting at around 20 euros), buy also one that comes with special gloves to rest your hand... or buy the special gloves separately.

Also, with a passive stylus, I've heard that you must touch the tablet with your other hand to make it work... something about transmitting the electricity (I have no idea if that makes any sense).

I have ordered the same tablet model (but hasn't arrived yet)... I hope to find a pen that works on it.

Please, I beg you (or anyone else) to tell me if you find a stylus that works on the Samsung Tab A8 T290.
