I have the A70 on Bell and it seems that I have to turn on LTE in order to have chat mode. Why did the One UI 2.0 update have to break some thing that was working perfectly. Before the One UI 2.0 update I was able to send/receive chat messages through wifi, through LTE and even without LTE/WiFi. Even my Note 8 can send messages through WiFi/LTE/none.

hello @wonand are you pertaining to chat messages or text messages?? if your LTE/WIFI are off i think you can still send text messages just don't know if it will be in form of RCS sms chat.. my reply is open for corrections... :)

Yea I'm talking about RCS messages. My Note 8 is able to send RCS messages even without WiFi or LTE. But it seems that my A70 doesn't do the same. If I text from my A70 to my Note 8 on the same wifi, it won't be able to send RCS messages. However, when I turn on LTE on the A70, only then would I be able to send and receive RCS messages on the A70. It wasn't like this prior to the One UI 2.0 update so I have a feeling Samsung is just changing things secretly

Are you able to send text to your Note8 if you turn off WiFi and LTE?

RCS will send over WiFi and LTE only. When WiFi and LTE disabled, your text will send over SMS message instead.

Yes regular SMS works but RCS doesn't seem to work on wifi, it only works with LTE

If LTE works, then the cause may comes from your phone or your home router. Try eliminate the cause from router first.

- Unplug router power
- Wait 10 seconds
- Plug power back to router

Wait until you can go out to internet. Send message again over WiFi to test it.

Also, try remembere have you make any changes to router settings? If you do, revert the old settings back. Some advance DNS settings may block the RCS pass through.

I have also read couple articles that RCS having problem on WiFi. Most are router problem, replace new router fix the problem. Some fixed the problem becauae of firewall blocked the RCS connection. And one fixed solution is open port 443 on router.

Hi wonand,

Please note that with firmware update there will be few old features discontinued and there will be new and improved features implemented.

The difference is that SMS refers to text messages, while MMS refers to messages with a picture or video. So, to send an MMS Mobile data is required.

RCS uses a data connection (mobile network or WiFi) to send messages between two RCS-enabled devices. Both sending and receiving devices must have RCS enabled and each customer’s carrier must support RCS messaging. Text-based conversations on RCS also use a small amount of mobile data. When RCS is not available, messages will send as standard SMS/MMS.
