Hi guys,

I did search for this forum and found a lot of questions about WiFi Calling. I made a call to Rogers Wireless Tech Support. I told them I was able to enable WiFi Calling when using Android N. After update to Android O, Rogers said my phone is not eligible to use WiFi Calling. And the reason is "My phone is not purchased from Rogers, therefore I cannot use the WiFi Calling, even though my plan included this feature".

Is that true? That's no different to locking the phone for Rogers ONLY. Canada force the carrier to unlock all phones and carrier using features to force us buying their phones…Orz

I keep telling myself forget about WiFi calling and I don't need it. Enable it is just the bonus for my phone…

Hey @Tallman, we are sorry to hear about your experience. But most of the "certain carrier only" features are only available for the device sold from them. Thanks

That's ok. I am wondering how come I can registered WiFi Calling when I was still using Android N. Maybe there is a bug. Or Rogers changed their policy recently. Thanks Wonchul∼!

Complain to the CRTC. This is not acceptable, since you clearly prooved you could use WiFi Calling with the device you have.

yes I second that. this is uncompetitive considering you're paying for the service from the provider that offers it to customer who purchases devices from them. there should be a discount on your service

I would put a complain in too as that just to stupid for words..
If you could do it before the update and not after... what Rogers said is just blubber if you ask me.

Both WiFi calling and VoLTE will not work on non branded Rogers phones. Im facing the same issue with my unlocked Bell branded phone on the Rogers network. Ridiculous when you think that this doesn't apply to Iphones

Yeah, iPhone get the full features. If Apple can make this happen, I think Samsung is power enough to bargain with these carriers for Samsung Android phones.

Personally after starting the process as I have a Roger's Galaxy A8, the WiFi calling is not worth it!! 👎 Even though it's called "WiFi Calling" & I have unlimited through my home wireless service, it doesn't work that way! Any data used to make a WiFi enabled call, would come off my monthly allotted data from my Plan & anything over that is obviously subject to overage charge's!!
After trying to clarify that, learned that despite my unlimited data plan on my home network, my using data from Roger's is subject to a different plan in order to make use of the WiFi Calling! While I can connect at home or anywhere else to an WiFi signal to circumvent using Plan Data, some service's are not covered by that 😖
