So after being proactive and updating my phone early to Samsung's latest OneUI patch, I was rewarded with my screen becoming unresponsive. Mind you, the phone is still completely functional, it connects to Wi-Fi and has background processes active. However, the screen will not react to my touches. I am stuck on my lock screen, with no ability to interact with my phone, other than holding the side buttons. As a side note, I am not using a screen shield or anything that would obstruct my finger from my phone screen. It was working fine before the update. I am using a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, updating from OneUI 6.0 to 6.1.

I had talked to Samsung Care support, who was of little help in trying to troubleshoot the issue.

I have managed factory reset the phone through the android safe mode (the menu you get from turning the phone off and back on while holding the power and volume keys).

But now my phone sits on startup screen, still unresponsive as earlier. Any suggestions on what I should do next?

I emailed my concern to the USA CEO of Samsung yesterday. STILL NOT FIXED!!!

I PURCHASED MY GALXY S21 ULTRA 5G PHONE BRAND NEW FROM EBAY 90 DAYS AGO. IT WORKED GREAT UNTIL I GOT A NOTIFICATION FROM SAMSUNG TO DO THE NEW ONEUI 6.1 UPDATE 2 DAYS AGO. AFTER THE UPDATE WAS COMPLETED, MY PHONES TOUCH SCREEN WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED AND NON FUNCTIONAL. I PRESENTED THE PROBLEM TO SAMSUNG CARE AND THEY REFERED ME TO uBreakiFix by Asurion AND 4 HOURS LATER THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED A NEW SCREEN THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST ($400.00) AND IT MIGHT WORK. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT A COMPANY OF SAMSUNG'S SIZE WOULD LEAVE IT'S CUSTOMERS HIGH AND DRY. CAN ANYTHING BE DONE TO MAKE MY PHONE FUNCTION AS IT DID PRIOR TO THIS LATEST UPDATE?! (PERFECTLY) NOW IT'S A PAPER WEIGHT. ANY SUGGESTIONS?!

I heard back from Canada's CEO team. Their response was
Please be informed that we don't have such reported issues so far.

Suggest people report this issue to Samsung support and your respective CEO office.

I have the same issue.  $296 for a new screen.  refurbished is $223.  So guess what, now looking at oneplus and Motorola.

I have the S21 Ultra (personal phone) and the S21 5G (work phone).  Both took the U6.1 update - the Ultra seems to be okay with a few oddities (screen flashing which never happened before).  The S21 5G is completely unresponsive to touch.  Have soft restarted a number of times without any change.  Have an adapter and an external keyboard attached and can access everything on the phone - just no ability to use the touch screen.  Both phones worked perfectly fine before the update - now my work phone is essentially a brick (who wants to have to use an external keyboard with a phone).

There is no way to back out from this update.  To suggest that people change out their screen (on their dime) is ridiculous - I replaced the screen less than a month ago and it worked perfectly until yesterday - this is completely unacceptable.

Come on Samsung - your customers deserve better than this!

Please keep us informed of any class actions against Samsung.  In talking with Assuran repair, this has been a very common occurence.  It also appears the patch messes with some internals.

IT WAS A NICE PHONE, now it is a brick ready to recycle.

I wish I had known about this issue before I pressed "update" this morning.  Like the rest of you, my touch screen no longer works since downloading the update. How has Samsung not fixed this if the issue has been "known" for over a month?

I did discover that plugging a mouse into my phone did allow me to access my phone- but this is obviously not a real solution. When I called Samsung, they gave me to same line... you'll have to take it to a Samsung repair- but they will charge you.

This is unbelievable that Samsung would send out an update that makes my phone useless and then say that if I want my phone to work I will have to pay to get it working again.

When will Samsung take care of the customers that have been affected by their update that rendered our phones USELESS!!! STILL NOT FIXED!!!
