Apple is updating their 5s, which is like 5 years old. They're also updating iPhone 6 and making it actually faster, like 40% in some cases.

Certainly Samsung can do same. Give S6 android 8.0, remove non essential items, and make it faster!

Honestly we pay so much for Samsung devices. $1000 for S8 vs iPhone 8, but Apple has so much better support (updates, phone or call), service (many stores, same hour replacement and cheap warranties $29 fix), Samsung should be above and push android 8.0 to a 3 year old smartphone.

I don't own S6, but in I don't want my S9 to be outdated in 3 years from now. I've S7 and A7 and it's bad that this year is their last update. The A7 basically gets one update, since it came out with outdated OS (nougat, when Oreo was out for long).

Edit: I also want to add that many people get phones year after release. We're still getting deals on s8. It's unfortunate that these people will only get update for 1 year. So yes, make 3 year OS updates and 4 year security update. We can't afford to throw away phones after 3 years!!! I tend to give away phone afterwards, so it's sad the phone is useless for people who need security update.

Edit 2: I'm talking about S6 getting Oreo, not s4 getting android p. Let's start talking about updating 3 year old phone first and then 4 or 5 year old.

While I do wish my S6 had been updated to Android 8.0, it did have 7.0 which was fine. never had performance issues. S9 obviously blows it away though.

Though totally agree with you, Samsung should def keep pace and support older devices.

Though I hope that Samsung updates their most expensive phones such as S8/S9/+/Note 8 for longer than previous flagship phones, one thing I should mention is that Apple deliberately slows down older iOS devices with updates so you buy their newer devices. So it's better to hope that Samsung provides security updates at least so that older devices remain secured, but doesn't follow the Apple way.

i agree. samsung is slacking big time. they add so many features making the os so heavy and then the os becomes unsuitable for older devices that don't have a powerful cpu.

Yup - Samsung needs to provide Security Updates at the very least!
BUT
Samsung is ACTIVELY FIGHTING AGAINST the consumer!!
Unfortunately Samsung won a lawsuit in the Netherlands which would have required them to provide Security Patch updates for 4 years.... This is Offensive that Samsung is EAGER to BLOCK support for older devices!

I'm serious, if the iPhone 5s: a phone from 2013 can get iOS 12. Then the Galaxy S4, a phone that's also from 2013 can and should get Android P.

Yeah but the S4 was released in April 2013....that's 5 years ago. Not to mention that Android P hasn't been released by Google (other than preview builds) or for the S9/S9+ . Then there is the HW issue, would P even run on the S4....Go to xda and Flash a Custom Rom if you want.
