Galaxy SHi, we recommend you to try to perform a diagnostic test on Speaker from Samsung Members app.
STEP 1. Open Samsung Members.
STEP 2. Tap on Diagnostics.
STEP 3. Tap on Test hardware.
STEP 4. Choose the Speaker to check and optimize the performance.

Galaxy SDiagnostics only test the hardware, they don't optimize anything.

Galaxy SDid you get any error messages from the Diagnostics?
But, you may want to visit a Samsung Service Centre to get it checked out by a tech.

Galaxy SWhat device do you have?
If it were a software issue, a Factory Reset would normally correct the problem.
It's highly unlikely that it would be an actual bug in the Firmware.

Galaxy SThe fact that you said that this issue occurred "all of a sudden", really points to a hardware issue. While it's possible for something to get corrupted, a Factory Reset, should also have fixed this.
You can try Booting into Safe Mode & see if the issue persists? If it doesn't, then it could be a 3rd party app causing the problem.
