pretty sure never, S6 has already had two OS upgrades I believe

Oh it definitely can handle the update, it's more than capable. There's budget phones like the j series that have half the specs of the S6 but those have Oreo.

Hardware wise S6 can support Oreo, if Samsung wants it, because it carries same chipset as A8 which is now on Oreo.
But, Samsung doesn't provide major Android updates to a phone for more than two versions. So you won't get Oreo update officially, but you'll be getting security patches.

No not the same chipset. That's the A8 2016 you're refering to. The A8 2018 has an Exynos 7885, not the same as the Exynos 7420 of the S6

I'm pretty sure Samsung has terminated software support for the S6. It's not even listed on their quarterly security updates.
However, the S6 Edge+ and S6 Active are still listed for monthly security updates. Though my understanding is because these models are released a few months after the S6 (hence still getting support).
