My s8+ is still perfectly fine to use but once Samsung stops pushing security updates, it will leave me and all the people still using their perfectly fine phones vulnerable to malicious attacks. If they don't want to spend resources keeping our security up-to-date, why don't they let the customer and the community do it themselves? For what reason does the bootloader need to be locked? How is this ethical? Why is this accepted? We paid a premium on this device just to have to throw it away in 3 years because Samsung won't give us the freedom to do what we want with it? It's baffling.

@Montreal1 Yeah - I think that it's because Samsung wants people to buy new phones - Samsung has removed a number of features from Samsung Health on Phones - Because Samsung wants people to buy their watches - They likely removed the Headphone Jack because Samsung wants people to buy their Wireless Earbuds... it's not enough that Samsung phones are now one of the most expensive devices on the market - Samsung is trying to sell more of their products by removing features that initially made them stand out from the crowd... Marketing - Marketing - Marketing - Even in Samsung apps their advertising is pervasive! Not appreciated.

@Cassidy - Unfortunately there's not much choice other than Google or OnePlus

Here's why:

Shaggyskunk1,

Well that's something that Samsung ridiculed Apple over & now Samsung is doing exactly what they criticized others for.

Buddy, you are on point! I use to love the fact of Samsung had an open door to custom roms which is what I did with my old phones that didn't get updates anymore. But yes now it's all data mining and control just like Apple! Samsung people tell them it's not cool!
