Hey guys,

I was wondering, I was talking to some people about the difference about VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling and was wondering in reality what was the difference between both.

Also, I was wondering if anyone was able to find a way to enable Wi-Fi Calling on a S8+ from Bell Mobility. I read somewhere that some were able to unlock it but I couldn't find how. Since my mobile connection is not good where I live, I thought wi-fi calling could really help me since I'm on a 1gb internet connection.

Thanks,

VoLTE: Call and Video calls over LTE. Does not count towards your data allocation. Brings higher call audio quality and lower latency.
WiFi-Calling: Uses a WiFi connection to access carrier services. Benefits are noticeable where you have poor mobile reception. Counts towards WiFi data allocation.

Normally you may go to Phone, 3 Dots, Settings, scroll down to the bottom and have WiFi Calling option. Activate it there

There is no WiFi calling support, from Bell, on devices other than iPhones. Rogers supports WiFi calling on phones other than the iPhone, such as the S7 and S8.

VoLTE has the added benefit of keeping an LTE data connection while performing a voice call (all voice and data are done in the LTE network). Previously, the LTE data connection would drop down to 2G/3G/UMTS when a voice call was initiated as the call would force a switch to the older network.

I'm on Freedom, S8+ and have WiFi calling. Rogers has it too, but Bell doesn't.
VoLTE is nothing interesting unless you want to play internet games on LTE speed while talking on phone(lol), but VoLTE does help to reduce connection drop.
Wifi calling is holy grail if you live in Canada, as it's a huge country you won't find mobile network everywhere. So if you have WiFi calling you can still make calls with nearby WiFi connection..Hope it helps.

@perfectg Are you using S8 on Oreo? After you hit wifi calling, it should take to mobile site and ask you to register your number. Then it should become activated.

@RichMan nope doesn't go that far. still stuck at wait till freedom mobile updates you. I called in and looks like my phone came from a Bell distributor, since they phones were unlocked and only accessible from bell and Telus at the time.
