Any update on when this and the ECG features might be available in Canada?

I asked for a Galaxy 3 watch as a gift based on these features being available. Had I known I would have opted for another brand.

Very disappointed.

It's disappointing that Samsung elected to remove the O² sensor & Heart Rate sensor from the S20 Ultra, And especially with the arrival of COVID-19! O² measurements would be especially useful.

Samsung points blame to Health Canada...this has been going on for years... I cant find any relevant Health Canada source or documentation that demonstrates the restriction, and what is required to remove it.

Seems to work with Apple devices, so I'm not sure about Samsung claim. Don't buy the Samsung watch if you are interested in the health features.

Remember when Samsung moderators were blaming the carriers for removing the mobile data toggle?

It took a while, but Samsung finally acknowledged that it was Samsung & not the carriers.

Pretty sure that Apple & other manufacturers don't have any special consideration.

Quoting directly from the article you linked: "In Canada, the tech giant has secured a Medical Device License from Health Canada for the ECG app and AFib notification."

So it does look like Health Canada does need to be involved with this...

So according to the link, it looks like Samsung just hasn't applied for a license?

That can be the case with Samsung. Or they could have applied but not approved. I'm not sure and could be dependent on how they view the device. What classification it is under, etc. I'm also not sure what regulations are involved with medical diagnostic devices.

I didn't know you could do all that.

its a class 1 or 2 device which is not hard to get approved at all, Canada is just not big enough for them to spend the money to do the test and get it approved, look at all the other watches that have it in Canada, i had every s series phone and watch, but Samsung service been disappointing, same with the android 11 update everyone is getting it we don't even have a timeline in canada

Canada seems to get the scraps from Samsung. Limited choice in colours for phones compared to the rest of the world. No participation in Samsung's beta programs.

Seriously, having working O² sensors on all of Samsung's mobile phones & watches would have been especially useful with Covid!
