What is your carrier?

Mine is CHATR. The problem is the carrier or Samsung messages App 10..0.20.165. I have provided Samsung with a screen capture of the setting July 24 2019 and I am waiting for a response.

A silent notification at 3AM would be fine. everyone checks they're phone 100 times per day. The notification would not have been missed by anyone.

I agree. But that is not being done. More importantly when you configure messages to not report. see enclosure above, it ignores the setting.

You are missing the point of these alerts. A silent notification would be missed by a lot of people. These alerts aren't sent for the sake of it. They are related to severe situations where lives are at stake and the help of the public is critical for the aformentionned endangered lives. If you've seen %suspect% or %vehicle% or %victim%, call the police immediately. Just that could potentially save someone's life. Can you put your safe life on hold for just a minute, read the message and determine if you can provide information to the authorities and save someone?

It may be only one or two persons that may have relevant information to share. You must make sure to reach that person. You really want to compromise the survival of people in danger so that a sound doesn't inconvenience you for a few minutes?

I received a response from Samsung. "Since you already disabled Amber alerts notifications from the Messages app, and receiving them again, please contact your carrier support to turn them OFF completely, as the alerts would be received via carrier signals. "
This suggests the message app is not able to disable Amber alerts.

Ok. You seem to not comprehend this...

1) this is LEGALLY MANDATED by the government.
2) there is NO opt out option for this alert.

Because of this no one is allowed to disable the alert.

Options for those that don't want to be disturbed at night:
1) turn off the phone (if you need an alarm, there are cheap alarm clocks you can get)
2) put your phone into silent mode (disable vibrate if it disturbs you with its vibrating sounds on desk or table)

Simple solutions really. I'm happy that the alert works and doesn't bother me one bit.
