I believe push messages are direct messages that are allowed.

Push mean ....PUSH
When you receive a notification, you have to PUSH (click?) on it to know more about this notification

Push notifications are just normal notifications you get in your notification panel.

Push usually means the server pushes data to your device rather than your device pulling the data from the server.
