I'm looking for opinions on if it's better to get the carrier version of the note 20 Ultra from Telus or if getting it from Costco where I'm a member and it comes unlocked would be better? Are there benefits either way? does the unlocked version get quicker updates in Canada?

I got it unlocked from Samsung and the moment I put my Telus SIM, it installed the telus app and I believe it locks it to Telus? not sure though..

Thanks for the info. Question, does the direct from Samsung version come with the pre installed screen protector?

It doesn't lock, that's illegal, but yep, all your carrier's settings will be applied.

Costco automatically does it. All you have to do is contact them to setup a repair after the base 1 year Samsung warranty is elapsed.

But does this cover just malfunctions or does it include like physical damage if I were to drop it for example.

Only malfunctions. Physical damage is extra. You can get either Samsung Care+ or Costco's insurance.
