I've noticed recently that the Gear vr service is using 15% of my batterie, even though I don't have any VR devices.
I tried to disable the service, but the option is grayed out. Force stopping it won't work, as it restarts automatically... Clear the cache and data doesn't work either as it resets upon restarting the phone.

I can't access the VR developer mode like suggested online as the phone claims that I'm "not a developper" even though the phone is in dev mode.

I am using the stock USB cable provided with the S7. I do not want to pay for a third party app that stops the service... I WANT TO DISABLE THAT GARBAGE CODE!

please help!

The easiest way to deal with this is to use the "s package disabler" apps. They let you disable built-in Samsung apps, like Gear VR. No root required. There are a bunch available, and I can't recommend one over the others. Mine has a blue splash screen, and when the free version worked right away, I paid the ~$2 for the add-free version. Be careful, though. Since you can disable system apps, you could potentially disable critical software. If you only disable software you *know* about, you should be safe, though.

this is the kind of thing I want to avoid... it seems to be the ONLY solution at the moment, but it's completely retarded and counter intuitive: If your airbags are faulty in your car, will the car manufacturer tell you to go to an auto shop and buy a third party piece to fix their fuck ups? :(

I will NEVER buy another Samsung phone again (at least not as long as their policy is to load bloatware and NOT allow disabling or uninstalling it)! I call the 'Gear VR' service the battery burner. When it starts up, my battery starts being used alarmingly quickly. I've tried the various tricks in other articles; I force stop it and sometimes that works. I won't turn on data saver; it's not a data issue anyway. Anyway, enough time spent on this; I like the UI on Samsung Android phones (I have an S7 that's still fine for my use otherwise), but when the time comes, I will go learn something else to get away from a company that doesn't care about its users, and has totally unfriendly setup.
