Facebook Messenger Custom Notifications

Wondering if anyone can help. I just got an S22, previous phone was an S9.

I regularly talk to my friend on Facebook messenger and on my S9 I had a custom notification noise set for him. When I set his custom notification on my S22 it is not working, I keep getting the default messenger noise. 

I've checked all the settings to make sure notifications aren't blocked or anything, and it says the custom noise is set but won't use it. Kind of confused and hoping I can get some help on making it work.

Are you setting the custom notification sound in the following path?

Open Messenger → Click on a person name → "i" on top right corner → Notifications & sounds → Customize notifications → sound

Did you choose a sound from there?

Because there are 2 options under Messenger settings, one is called notifications & sounds, and the next is called notification sounds.

Yeah I actually ended up doing it under both paths when the first one I tried didn't work, and still nothing :(

Maybe you can try reset the app.

Long pess on Messenger app → "i" on top right corner → Storage

Click clear data and clear cache. Try setup the Messenger again to see if this help.

I've done that, my friend is sleeping so I'll see if it worked once he wakes up. Thanks!

I did also try to uninstall and reinstall the app earlier as well and that didn't seem to help. It's not the end of the world but I like to differentiate and know when someone specific is messaging me. Worst case I guess I'll swap to texting
