Galaxy SThere's nothing wrong with doing a Factory Reset AFTER the Oreo Update - However I'd be cautious about Restoring some things after the Oreo Update (you wouldn't want to restore some apps that may not be compatible with Oreo - Although that's likely to be unusual at this point considering that Oreo has been out for 8 months... hint hint Samsung 😉🐧
I'm going to these lengths because unlike a Rooted phone where you have TWRP Nandroid backups (which backup everything exactly as it was at that moment in time) I'm not 100% sure about how comprehensive Smart Switch etc is - And since I use Nova Launcher I backup it's settings to the external sd card and my Drive.

Galaxy SBut factory reset is not necessary after upgrade. Usually if something not working fine. However, I heard lots of people will wipe cache memory after firmware upgrade thou.
