personally I'm not unless there is a problem. but I've never done a factory reset after a update before and the device seems to run fine

Only do that if you have any problem/performance issue with your current version. I plan to do so since I have no app shortcuts on my lock screen

I believe in redundancy SO I use Smart Switch to Backup my User Apps and Settings & App Backup & Restore Pro to Backup my User Apps on my S8+ before any Security Patch Update - As for the Oreo Update - I'll backup my User apps as usual + I'll copy all my downloads to my external sd card - I already have all my photos and music stored on the external sd card and backup my Calls and SMS Logs to my Drive account (yes I know that I could use Samsung Cloud - But there's been changes to Samsung Cloud that it no longer backs up 3rd party apps).
There's nothing wrong with doing a Factory Reset AFTER the Oreo Update - However I'd be cautious about Restoring some things after the Oreo Update (you wouldn't want to restore some apps that may not be compatible with Oreo - Although that's likely to be unusual at this point considering that Oreo has been out for 8 months... hint hint Samsung 😉🐧
I'm going to these lengths because unlike a Rooted phone where you have TWRP Nandroid backups (which backup everything exactly as it was at that moment in time) I'm not 100% sure about how comprehensive Smart Switch etc is - And since I use Nova Launcher I backup it's settings to the external sd card and my Drive.

Hi rkass, backup is your friend. You never know what will happen after upgrade. Even thou nothing happen after upgrade. But if something happen, that's too late to regret why not backup before upgrade.

But factory reset is not necessary after upgrade. Usually if something not working fine. However, I heard lots of people will wipe cache memory after firmware upgrade thou.
