Currently I've been using Samsung Messages for years as my default messaging app. I've been reading that Google Messages is the norm now for Android devices. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of switching to Google Messages? Both pros AND cons please.

I think that you'll find that, eventually Samsung Messages will be deprecated and no longer supported.

Google Messages, even if not perfect for everyone, is a superior Messaging app in all the ways that matter.

Much like Samsung Maps, Samsung Translate, Bixby, etc, It doesn't really make sense for Samsung to invest in trying to duplicate something that is more universally used, and has ongoing development.

I've used both. For a while. And while googles is decent, it still lacks in customization. I love to use photo backgrounds and Samsung allows for that. And yes they still support RCS, I don't know why people are saying it doesn't ...simply not true. Now if Google allows for photo backgrounds, I'll come back.

Am I the only one that if I try to switch to Google message not all the sms are transfered... Maybe should clear the cache of Google Message?

@SandyaRazz, simple to switch to Google Message app on your Samsung phone. Just open Google Message App and click " set default SMS app" . It seems to me that both Samsung Message and Google Message use the same RCS chat.1706458666661.jpg

What I like with Samsung Messages is the categories and of course better dark mode. This features actually keeps me from using Google Messages.

The only thing I've noticed is the RCA support, although Samsung messages on my S24U still has that. In my opinion Samsung messages allows more customization over Google. You can create different backgrounds for all of your contacts or just make the same background for all. Google has yet to catch up in my opinion. Which is why I'm shaking my head that Samsung gave in like that.
