Back up your messages if you need them, then clear your app data by long pressing on your Samsung messages app, click on the little "i" top right corner, storage, clear cache and data.

No error. It just won't load the app when tapped on. It tries to open but closes immediately.

Here are some troubleshooting steps, you can try and see if it helps.
- Press power button, When you see Power Off red button, long press and hold. It will change to safe mode button
- Boot into safe mode and see if Samsung Message app still open then close?
*** If it doesn't that means some apps conflict Samsung Message app. Is not, try next suggestion.
Try Wipe Cache Partition
- Power off your phone
- Press and hold vol up and power key until you are in recovery mode
- use vol up and down to navigate
- select Wipe Cache Partotion
- press power key to confirm
- click yes
- click reboot system
Tryy open Samsung Message app again to see if problem exist.
If all above suggestions not working, I believe you need to do a full backup and factory reset the phone. Since Samsung Message apo is part of the Android system app. You cannot get rid of it. Could be the app software corrupted.

Thank You. Safe mode and cache partition did not help. And I would hold onto doing factory reset as I did it recently because of multiple reboot issue. And it was quite painful process.

New update came in for the OS. Fixed the message app. Now camera app not working. Power + volume down fixed the issue. What is wrong with this phone? 😕
