Once again Samsung really knows how to wreck your day....

I've had my phone for almost a year, when I put in the original SIM the phone did a reset. Apparently this is by design, and in multiple places Samsung says this will never happen again.

Well it did.  I put on another carrier's SIM in my phone and it factory reset.

How am I supposed to swap a SIM out without losing my data.

I know no one from Samsung will respond because they dont gove a **bleep**.

if you read the post, this isn't a new device. I've had it for a year, it's a new sim

I think this is SIM Profiling.  When you are inserting different SIM card, for instance, switching provider, Canadian Samsung phone will do factory reset in order to load the apps specific to the new provider.

again this only is supposed to happen the first time you insert the sim, not if you change your sim.

PLEASE don't presume everybody knows the following, because, like Naten, i did'nt knew it :
«everyone knows as soon as you put a carrier sim card in....your phone performs a factory reset.»

hi Cassidy, it's true not everyone knows, or they know and forget.

but the point of my post is that this was not a new phone it was a new SIM card.

the first time you put a sim in it resets for carrier activation, BUT it is never supposed to do that again.

in my case it reset after I put in a second sim. if you are traveling and swap out your sim, you are pretty much screwed after this...

such a disappointment from a supposed flagship product... I will not be shelling out $1000+ for another Samsung again, they just dont care.

Was it the same Android version when you put the Sim Card again ? If NO, maybe it could be why it happened ?....

I assume it is. as soon as I put in the sim it shut down and said erasing data...

it would not have had time to download and update anything, it was instantaneous.

it was exactly the same as if I had never put a sim in the phone before.

you cant trust these things at all.
