Can someone explain to me why Apple pay works with most banks, credit cards, debit cards etc in Canada while Samsung pay and Android pay don't ? What's the difference between the 2 systems and why hasn't Samsung mirrored apples system so we can actually use our Android phones to pay for stuff in Canada ? (and yes, I'm fully aware that Samsung pay currently works with CIBC on a few of their credit cards. )

It's up to the banks to jump on board. Samsung can't force the banks to adopt Samsung pay.
That being said I don't think it's right, I bank with RBC, they are on board with Apple pay. However all posters in the bank advertising a mobile app show the Samsung phone. If they aren't going to adopt Samsung pay Samsung should pull the posters.

I get that it's up to the banks to accept this new payment method but why did they accept Apple Pay so quickly but still haven't accepted Android or Samsung pay? is Apple pay more secure?

It's because Apple locks out NFC on iPhones so no third party can access it, meaning if you want mobile payments for your customers on iPhones you MUST support Apple Pay. On Android and Samsung devices in particular, banks have access to NFC and can provide mobile payments through their own apps (which they all do). They are in no hurry to support Samsung Pay because they would need to pay transaction fees to Samsung for every transaction. Why support a more expensive service when they can provide their own at no cost?
It may be frustrating but honestly that is the main reason behind it.

It's all about numbers. As many Galaxy phones as Samsung sells...Apple still has the largest numbers. It does suck though. RBC does have there own wallet app though that you can use for payments anywhere that takes tap. Hopefully hold you over until the official release of Samsung and Android pay.

it's odd.. TD and BMO in the USA support Samsung Pay..Android Pay... And Apple Pay...BMO also has masterpass... But in Canada... They are not jumping on it... could it maybe not be the banks ...but maybe the CRTC favoring Apple over android?
