Galaxy SYeah, that's why I said what device I have.
I think that Samsung has discontinued support for Samsung Messages, and we've seen Samsung's Moderators suggesting that people switch to Google's Messaging app. So I think that Samsung Messages AND Google Messages may be pre-installed as System Apps on some devices?

Galaxy SYeah, you can't uninstall Samsung Messages, as it is a System app.
Google Messages is a User installed app on my S20 Ultra, so it can be uninstalled, but I use it rather than Samsung's Messaging app.

Galaxy SI think that the default messages app is Samsung's one but many people use Google's.
I don't know if there's a way to uninstall any of them but you can disable and uninstall the updates of Google messages (on an a53 5g)

Galaxy SUnless you want to use Google Message app, then Samsung Message and Google Message app both will appear. If use Samsung Message app only, like me. The Google Message app can be disable and not show on your app drawer.

Galaxy SDepends on the Device and the OP hasn't said what device they have.
I can absolutely uninstall Google Messages from my device. It was not pre-installed on my S20 Ultra.
