Oh, could it depend on the phone model ?

Yeah, that's why I said what device I have.

I think that Samsung has discontinued support for Samsung Messages, and we've seen Samsung's Moderators suggesting that people switch to Google's Messaging app. So I think that Samsung Messages AND Google Messages may be pre-installed as System Apps on some devices?

Yeah, you can't uninstall Samsung Messages, as it is a System app.

Google Messages is a User installed app on my S20 Ultra, so it can be uninstalled, but I use it rather than Samsung's Messaging app.

Hi, we would like to suggest you please follow these steps:

Open the Google Play Store app .

At the top right, tap the Profile icon.

Tap Manage apps & devices.

Manage.

Tap the name of the app you want to delete.

Tap Uninstall.

Hi, the first messages app (267 mb) is Google messages, and the second one is Samsung Messages.
I think that the default messages app is Samsung's one but many people use Google's.
I don't know if there's a way to uninstall any of them but you can disable and uninstall the updates of Google messages (on an a53 5g)
Galaxy S
You cannot uninstall both. But Google Message can be disable.

Unless you want to use Google Message app, then Samsung Message and Google Message app both will appear. If use Samsung Message app only, like me. The Google Message app can be disable and not show on your app drawer.Screenshot_20221106_165225_Settings_1000001789_1667778999.jpgScreenshot_20221106_165311_Settings.jpg

Depends on the Device and the OP hasn't said what device they have.

I can absolutely uninstall Google Messages from my device. It was not pre-installed on my S20 Ultra.
