Hello. I am visiting Korea this month and roaming is quite bit expensive as a Rogers Canadian User. Recently, my friend told me there is a wifi calling function in my Rogers S8+. I guess where cellular coverage is bad, phone use wifi signals for phone calling and texts

I wonder if i bring my phone to korea and connect it to local wifi and enable the wifi calling function, am I still getting calls and texts sent to my Canadian number? Just curious thanks

Honestly I don't know, but a VPN could be good for your security.

Receiving calls will be roaming. Only solution is to get fongo with different number so u can receive wifi calls from Canada and even local I believe.

@Google is right. It'll be on roaming even you're using WiFi calling, that's how they make money.
Best way to counter this is to use VOIP services, such as fongo.

As told above regardless if your using Wi-Fi calling or just regular call it's going to charge you the roaming rates for that country. Only was around this is use a 3rd party app, there's enough of them out there

Get a sim card at your destination and forward your existing number to it.

Hi @Dreamliner, it would probably be best to contact your carrier to clarify the details just to ensure that there is no extra charges with calling.
As @Echo says there are many messaging and calling apps that are strictly wifi so that could be another option as well.
Thanks

I have a Rogers S8 and I used Wifi Calling in Malaysia fine. No need for VPN. For me I just airplane moded my phone and turned wifi on and it worked fine. Also Rogers and Fido are the only carriers that dont need a VPN to use Wifi Calling overseas. Also you just use your phone just as would in Canada you won't get charged for calling Canadian numbers as long as you see the WifiCalling icon.
