So I take a lot.of astrophotography snaps with my last 3 Samsung devices.  I've always had to adjust the manual focus a few stops back from max but with the S21 no matter what I choose half the photo is blurry. I find this completely unacceptable and can only think that there is a hardware fault with the camera?
I should be specific as well, this is only with the main lense in pro mode, when I use ultra wide its very crisp.

Edit: I am using a tripod, and my watch as the remote shutter. To be clear this only occurs when using the main lense in pro mode, not the ultra wide. So I know it's specific to that lense.

first, are you using a cellphone tripod for your photos ?
if you capturing it handheld zoom lenses for example 3x and 10x ought to come blurry and might be the shake from your hand. and if you're using cellphone holder/tripod contact Samsung customer care.

I use my cellphone tripod but it seems to be coming crisp like your 3rd picture. But also I am using timer instead of manually pressing the shutter button on phone and also if you wanna try manual setting with shutter halfway open and longer time, that might help too.

Hi, Compared to the camera image sensors of previous devices, Galaxy S21 Ultra has a larger image sensor that supports high resolution. It allows users to take bright pictures even in dark places and to take clear pictures of distant objects. The larger the image sensor, the longer the focal length is necessary. So, the closer the shooting object is, the image may be out of focus. However, this is a normal phenomenon according to the camera image sensor’s characteristics, not device defect. It is recommended that you do not position subjects within too close distances from the device to take clear photos and keep the proper distances between the device and object. In addition, if you want to take images of close objects, please take clear close-up pictures of your subject using the focus enhancer feature. All Samsung smartphones undergo rigorous internal inspection tests and are always being controlled under Samsung’s high level of quality standards internally.

lol, he's taking pictures of the stars, not exactly close objects.

@rgs23's answer is the most likely solution.

Although somewhat informative @times
It seems at certain moments it feels like nobody reads the words

(yay, another word I made today!
this time from the derivative of assumption 🤪)

thank you, part of me wonders if at higher ISO the depth of field is VERY narrow. I have taken many photo's like this in the past with no issues, so I was a little dumbfounded when I couldn't seem to focus out if this. I will try the ISO next time to see if that makes a difference.

Just to provide some context, I've now included other photos I've taken with my S10 with high ISO

Those are absolutely amazing! Whenever I have free time to get the arm of the galaxy it's always cloudy 😭
