Great phone, but once again lousy implementation.  I have been loyal to Samsung and Android since the beginning of the smartphone revolution and it's always been my primary phone.  But once Apple gets Touch ID on their Pro lines, I'm switching over.

Why?

  • Wifi Calling - Carriers are not supporting or too slow to update.
  • eSim - not available in North America and probably never will.
  • 5G - I'm told that our carriers will limit the availability of devices based on their IMEI but Apple is all whitelisted.
  • there's a bunch of annoying features not limited to Samsung though like airplane mode turns off wifi and bluetooth (unless earbuds are connected), many corporate apps are better written for iOS, etc...

So the premier flag ship phone is crippled right out of the box.  Just not acceptable in this day and age.

I get the run around from Telus saying, they don't support grey market phones but I can buy an iPhone from the Apple store and they support it.  I got mine from the Samsung store and no?  So if you are listening Samsung, get features to work which should right out of the box!

Rogers and Bell sure do. Online, it seems that you can get Telus to whitelist your device.

Wifi calling is not available according to Koodo. Worked on my S10e. Apparently they need to update or something. But many are reporting that phones not purchased by the carriers are not able to have wifi calling. Most refer to Telus as the culprit. Bell seems to be OK so far. idk about Roger's.

Rogers absolutely not. In my case, I brought a phone over from Freedom Mobile to Rogers, and WiFi calling did not work. Tech support even told me that it would not work, as it was a device not purchased from Rogers. VoLTE and HD calling did not work either.
