After updating to Android 13/One UI 5 my Samsung S21+ 5G (SM-G996W) keeps falsely detecting water in the charging port. When I plug it in to charge in my car, it works just fine until I turn the car off. When I turn the car off it will give me the moisture detected in charging port warning. This warning stays on indefinitely. The only way I found to fix this warning, is to shut down my phone, plug it in, see that it's charging, and then turn my phone back on. Otherwise the moisture detected in charging port warning will not disappear. The longest I've left it active was one whole week. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing these issues.

Hi, If you are getting the “Moisture has been detected” warning, it’s doesn’t mean that your Samsung phone was in direct contact with water. Most of the time, the charging error might be caused by a very humid atmosphere and sweating if you live in a hot area. The presence of dirt in the USB port of your Samsung device might also cause charging issues.

If you are having problems with charging your Samsung Galaxy smartphone, it may be due to one of the following reasons:

  • The charging port is wet or it has moisture residuals.
  • Dust particles have build up inside the USB port.
  • The charging port has been damaged due to corrosion, or the use of incompatible charging accessories.

Use a soft dry cloth to gently wipe your Samsung phone and shake it while keeping the charging port down. Then place it in the open air or under the ceiling fan for some time so that the moisture evaporates.

Please try using a different USB C Type C cable to charge your phone. Doing so will rule out the possibility of a damaged USB port. If the moisture detected bug has disappeared, it’s time to get a new charging cable.

Boot into the Safe Mode: Safe Mode is a diagnostic tool for Android devices. If you noticed that you started getting the “Moisture has been detected” warning right after installing an app, this tip might help you. A rouge 3rd-party app might trigger serious problems including the moisture bug. Reboot your Samsung device into the Safe Mode and plug in the charging cable. If you no longer get the moisture detected error, it means the real culprit is some recently installed app. You can uninstall the suspicious apps one by one in the Safe Mode and fix the charging issue.

If still the issue persists try to visit the Samsung authorized service center by the link given below to get it fixed.

Ive had charge port replaced on one of my phones with errors and its still happening. Please see my reply to the primary post.  Im convinced its due to software update.

Definitely. It is not my charging cord, because it charges everything else but my phone, and it started after the update. Did everything I could think of including factory reset. I thought it was fixed, but than I couldn't hear anyone on my phone. Samsung really outdid themselves this time WILL NEVER buy a Samsung product ever again they are awful. I am disabled and I don't drive. How do I get a technician they don't do house calls. Am so p_ssed!

It is on Samsungs end.

A friend, who was a tech at the time for Samsung, told me it's in the updates. This is the 3rd phone I've had that had the error.

6mo after purchasing my new Galaxy 22+, It automatically updated (because I push the updates for this reason) and as soon as it was done with the update (while charging) it gave the all familiar alarm stating moisture detected.

None of my Galaxy phones have been around water or moisture and are cared for because they're so darn expensive.

It is a Samsung bug and it needs to be fixed or they will continue pushing "Longterm customers" away!

I love Samsung but I'm not going to keep spending my hard earned $1200-1600 on their products, if they can not fix the bugs and stop tampering with my phone!

This is the 3rd phone of mine it's done it to and it's always right after the update is installed!

This is happening to my phone with the recent update 8-14-24. Nothing in my port and nothing wrong with the 10 cables I tried . This is some *** to get you buy a new phone . Or a glitch. Hoping its the later.

I am not sure if this will help, but you can give it a try. Since you have this problem after update, try clear the cache partition on your phone.

- Power off your phone
- Press and hold vol up and power key until you are in recovery mode
- use vol up and down to navigate
- select Wipe Cache Partition
- press power key to confirm
- click yes
- click reboot system

I have this same issue on 2 Samsung phones. S20+ and now S23 Galaxy Ultra. I literally plugged my phone IN to install the update and post update it was warning me to unplug because of moisture or foreign material in the charging port. I believe this is a BUG that has been introduced by the latest OS update. Have you had any luck resolving this?
