I'm not sure what the problem is but I've noticed after the April update YouTube has been very greedy with the phones battery.

Things I've tried

1. Uninstalling and reinstalling app
2. Clear cache partition

I have the S24 Ultra

That does seem high!

First thing that comes to mind, if you have YouTube set to high Brightness, but if it was the same before the April update.. I'm not sure at the moment 🤔

I've got Instagram on screen for 2 hours & 44 minutes, and 14.6% battery usage on my S23 Ultra.

I have Premium and i have background play enabled. The screen has been off while music is playing.

I suppose that a similar app might be Spotify Premium.

I was listening to Spotify for over an hour today, and Spotify used  .7% with ~1 minute on screen.

I was listening to downloaded music.

I wonder if the issue is the result of an update to YouTube?

Possibly. I'm thinking it's mainly on YouTubes end

I'm not sure if the screen was off, and you were listening to music on YouTube, why it's behaving as though the screen was on for 41 minutes.. was the screen on for that long?

Naw. The phone screen was off while listening to music

that is most likely why, although your screen is off, it is still playing in the background which uses more battery

Except i took my phone off the charger at 11am and my phone died completely at 6:20pm i started playing music in the background for about 3hrs total today. Youtube never used to use this much battery before. I'd be able to go a whole day without worrying about my battery. It's definitely a bug in the YouTube app
