I'm not sure what the problem is but I've noticed after the April update YouTube has been very greedy with the phones battery.

Things I've tried

1. Uninstalling and reinstalling app
2. Clear cache partition

I have the S24 Ultra

I agree with @jamesy,it is most likely the YouTube app.

I can listen to Spotify for hours, and it barely uses any battery.

I've unistalled the app and there's an update option. I'm not going to update it and see if that fixes the problem. Once there's another update then I'll update it.

So far so good. It seems it was the version of the app that was messing up everything. Ive only gone down 1% and ive been listening to music in the background for 20 minutes

Go to app settings and look for youtube. Uninstall updates and use the app unupdated app. That fixed my issue. S u c k s you have to do that but that's the workaround that works until youtube decides to update their app again. It seems to be the April 3rd update thats giving the issue. Also make sure you unclick auto update for the YouTube app on the playstore so it doesn't update and give you problems again lol.1712386909794.jpg1712386909849.jpg

It's not fixed unfortunately. The app seems to auto update even though i have auto update off. So now I'm seeing if it will help if i run the device on lite mode

Now i have another problem. Even with auto update turned off the app still seemed to update itself. This is annoying and concerning.

Have this issue on S24+ with YouTube version 19.13.36. When issue is present the phone gets hot and battery drains in about 4 hours, even when every app including YouTube is closed down. It seems to trigger when I have downloaded a video and played it. From that point forward, battery drain. Issue clears if you erase application data, but returns when you next download a video.

The identical YT version on S9 does not have this issue, so seems to be hardware or API version related.
